| One of the bad boys of Egyptian football. Started his career at Al Ahly and is one of the few players to have moved to rivals Zamalek. Burst onto the scene in the 2000 MTN Africa Cup of Nations in Nigeria and Ghana. Was also picked for the 2002 MTN Africa Cup of Nations in Mali, but was sent home for disciplinary reasons, and spent almost four years in the international wilderness before being surprisingly recalled by current Egyptian coach, Hassan Shehata, on the eve of the 2006 MTN Africa Cup of Nations. Had brief but unspectacular spell with Everton in the English Premier League. Started every match in the 2006 MTN Africa Cup of Nations. |
